La relación entre Michael W Smith no viene de ahora. Ya se conocían en 2004, cuando ambos colaboraron en un acto de ONE CAMPAIGN en Philadelphia el 17 de Mayo de 2004. Probablemente en aquellas fechas, Michael W Smith estuvo en el estudio de U2, pues hay constancia de que estuvo participando como teclista en la grabación de la canción "North Star" que en principio iba destinada al disco "How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb", pero que finalmente fue descartada.

Posteriormente, Bono y Michael W Smith se han encontrado varias veces en Nashville (de donde es Michael), una de ellas durante la visita de la gira U2 360º.
